Custom Built Entertainment Units

A television is often used alongside media players, game consoles, speakers, routers, and other equipment. Standard TV furniture may not provide the right dimensions or enough storage for everything you need to keep in the area. We design and make custom built entertainment units around your room, television and equipment.

Your unit can occupy part of a wall, extend from wall to wall or fit inside an alcove. It can include open shelving, cupboards, drawers and dedicated equipment sections. We agree on the dimensions, layout, materials and finish with you before a piece of wood is cut.

What Can Custom Built Entertainment Units Include?

The layout depends on your television, the equipment you use and how much storage you need. You can combine open and closed sections instead of arranging several separate pieces of furniture around the screen.

Your design could include:

  • An opening planned around your television
  • Lower cupboards or drawers
  • Open shelves for books and display pieces
  • Sections for media players and games consoles
  • Space for speakers and other equipment
  • Cable openings and access panels
  • A fitted or floating base unit
  • Full-height cabinets at one or both sides
  • Back panels or timber slat details
  • Integrated lighting where it suits the design

Custom built TV entertainment cabinets can be arranged symmetrically or use different sections on each side. The final proportions are based on the wall and the items that need to fit within the unit.

How Do We Plan an Entertainment Unit Around Your Room and Equipment?

We begin by discussing how the room is used and which items need to be included. We need to know the dimensions of your television and whether it will stand on the furniture or be mounted on the wall.

We also consider the size and position of media equipment, speakers, consoles and other devices. Their dimensions affect the width, depth and height of the compartments, as well as the access required for controls and cables.

When measuring the room, we record the position of sockets, data points, skirting boards, radiators, windows, doors and alcoves. Before making the unit, we agree on the television opening, storage arrangement and visible details with you.

The cabinetry can be planned around electrical and data services, but any electrical work or television mounting should be coordinated with the appropriate trade where required.

How Can Custom Media Units Combine Storage and Display Space?

Custom media units can include visible shelving for books, photographs, and decorative pieces alongside cupboards for equipment and household items. This allows each part of the wall to be given a clear use.

Lower cabinets can hold games, controllers, remote controls and other smaller items. Open compartments can keep regularly used equipment accessible, while taller cupboards may suit items that you do not want to leave on display.

The shelves do not all need to have the same height or depth. We can plan them around specific objects and coordinate the arrangement with our Custom Built Shelving Units. If books are the main priority, we can also incorporate ideas from our Custom Built Bookcases.

Can We Build a Floating or Wall-Mounted TV Unit?

A floating entertainment unit can provide cupboards or drawers beneath a wall-mounted television while keeping the floor below clear. Its width and depth can be planned around the television, equipment, and available wall space.

The wall construction and suitable fixing points need to be considered before the design is finalised. The size, materials and expected contents also affect how the cabinet should be supported.

A wall-mounted unit can remain limited to the space below the television or connect with shelving and cabinets around the screen. We plan the furniture and television positions together so the proportions and access requirements can be checked before construction.

How Do We Plan Cable Access and Equipment Ventilation?

Televisions and media equipment may require power, data, aerial, speaker, and HDMI connections. We discuss which devices will be included and where the existing sockets and connection points are located.

Depending on the design, the cabinetry can include cable openings, open-backed sections or removable access panels. These features allow cables and connections to be reached without removing the surrounding furniture.

Media players, game consoles and other powered equipment can produce heat. We consider the manufacturer’s clearance and ventilation requirements when planning enclosed compartments. Equipment specifications should be provided before the cabinet dimensions are finalised.

Can a Custom TV Entertainment Unit Include Shelving, Cupboards and Lighting?

A custom TV entertainment unit can combine a central television area with shelving, lower cupboards, drawers or full-height cabinets. The storage can continue across the complete wall or remain limited to the space immediately around the screen.

Cupboards can conceal equipment, cables and everyday items. Open shelves can be used for display pieces or belongings that need to remain easy to reach. The layout can also include glass-fronted sections where appropriate.

Integrated lighting can be fitted within open shelves or display sections. The positions of the lights, controls, and power supply need to be agreed during planning so the wiring can be coordinated before the furniture is made.

What Materials and Finishes Can You Choose?

We can discuss materials including painted MDF, solid wood details and wood-effect boards depending on the design. Painted MDF provides a smooth finish in a colour selected for the room, while timber can introduce a natural surface on shelves, panels or worktops.

Doors and drawer fronts can be plain, Shaker-style or reeded. You can also choose handles or discuss push-to-open fittings where they suit the construction.

The television area can have a simple painted back panel, a contrasting finish or timber slat details. Shelves, cabinet fronts and visible panels can share one finish or use a combination of materials. We agree on these details with you before making the unit.

Why Choose Custom Built Entertainment Wall Units?

Ready-made TV furniture is supplied in fixed dimensions. It may leave gaps along the wall or provide compartments that do not fit your equipment.

Custom built entertainment wall units are planned around the width and height available. You can decide how much open shelving and enclosed storage to include, as well as where the television and equipment should sit.

A made-to-measure design also allows sockets, cables, alcoves, and other room features to be considered from the beginning. This reduces the need to position several unrelated cabinets and shelves around the television.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

Yes. The design can combine lower cupboards, drawers, open shelves, and taller cabinets. We plan each section around what you need to store or display.

Can you make a floating entertainment unit?

Yes, where the wall construction and fixing position are suitable. We consider the dimensions, materials and intended contents when planning its support.
