Custom Under-Stairs Bathroom Utility Unit in Weybridge, Surrey

For this bathroom project in Weybridge, our Carpenter North Surrey team designed and built a fitted utility unit beneath the staircase. The layout follows the descending angle and incorporates the washing machine within the cabinetry. 

We divided the remaining space into tall cupboards and lower shelved compartments, creating storage for mops, ironing boards and other household items. The sloping arrangement is typical of under-stairs units, where every section must be sized around the changing height.

Under-Stairs Utility Storage Built Around the Washing Machine

The washing machine sits within a dedicated opening, with a cupboard above providing additional shelving. Taller cupboards offer vertical storage for longer cleaning equipment, while the lower doors open to shelves for smaller items.

The result is custom utility room carpentry fitted directly into the bathroom, using one wall to keep the appliance and household storage together. Each compartment was planned so regularly used items could be reached without interfering with the washing machine.

Egger Melamine Bathroom Unit with Wide-Opening Doors

We constructed the unit from Egger melamine, providing a durable surface for storage that will be used regularly. Soft-close hinges control the door movement, while selected doors open wider to provide better access to the larger compartments. 

Internal shelves follow the changing shape beneath the stairs, and each door was cut to fit the sloping frontage. When closed, the unit presents a continuous fitted face while keeping the washing machine available for everyday use.
