Custom Walnut Bookshelf, Desk and Bathroom Storage in Vauxhall, Lambeth

For this Vauxhall project, our Carpenter Lambeth team designed and built two matching pieces from walnut-veneered MDF. The main installation is a large wall-fixed bookshelf with thick shelves and side panels, while the bathroom has a cabinet made from the same material. We finished the bookshelf with clear varnish, protecting the surface while retaining the walnut grain.

Walnut Bookshelf with an Integrated Desk

The bookshelf runs across most of one wall and has no backing, so the existing wall remains visible within the open compartments. Shelves of different widths and heights provide room for books and display pieces without forming a repetitive grid.

At one end, we incorporated a desk that opens into a dedicated workspace and closes when not needed. The project shows how custom built in bookcases can bring storage, display, and a desk into one wall-mounted design.

Matching Walnut Bathroom Storage with Side Lighting

In the bathroom, we built a wall-mounted storage cabinet from the same walnut-veneered MDF. Mirrored centre doors sit within a walnut frame, with shelves inside for toiletries and other bathroom items. Side lighting was included around the cabinet area, helping the unit serve as storage and a practical mirror above the basin. 

Repeating the material links the cabinet with the bookshelf while allowing each piece to suit its room. It is a compact example of custom built in bathroom units designed around the room and the client’s needs.
