What Can Custom Built Wardrobes Include?

The design can combine hanging space, shelves, drawers and other storage within one installation. Each section can have its own width and height according to the clothes and belongings kept there.

Your wardrobe could include:

How Do We Plan Built-In Wardrobes Around Your Room?

We begin by discussing what you need to store and how you use the bedroom or dressing area. This helps establish how much hanging space, shelving and drawer storage should be included.

We then measure the walls, floor and ceiling and record the position of doors, windows, radiators, sockets and skirting boards. Nearby furniture and the clear floor space required to open doors and drawers are also considered.

Built in wardrobes can extend from wall to wall or floor to ceiling. They can also be planned around a window, chimney breast, alcove or stair bulkhead. If the room has an angled roof, we can apply the same approach used for our Custom Furniture for Sloping Ceilings and Loft Rooms.

Which Layout and Door Style Suits a Custom Fitted Wardrobe?

A straight wardrobe can use one wall, while an L-shaped or U-shaped layout can provide storage across two or three sides of a larger room. A walk-in arrangement can combine open wardrobe sections with drawers, shelves and enclosed cabinets.

Hinged doors provide direct access to the complete section behind each door. They require clear floor space to open, so the position of beds, bedside tables and room doors needs to be considered.

Sliding doors do not open into the room and may suit spaces with less clearance in front of the wardrobe. One part of the interior remains covered when the doors overlap, so the door widths and internal divisions should be planned together.

A custom fitted wardrobe can also combine door types or leave selected sections open. The suitable arrangement depends on the room dimensions and how you want to reach your belongings.

How Can Custom Made Wardrobes Be Arranged Inside?

Custom made wardrobes allow the interior to be divided around different types of clothing. The amount of long hanging, short hanging, folded storage, and drawer space can be adjusted instead of following a standard arrangement.

Shelves can be fixed or adjustable. Drawers may be placed at a practical height, while shoe storage can sit below hanging rails or within a separate section. Higher cupboards can hold items that are not needed every day.

Integrated lighting can be planned inside the wardrobe or around open sections. The positions, controls and power supply should be agreed before construction, with electrical work completed by the appropriate trade.

What Materials, Doors and Finishes Can You Choose?

We can discuss painted MDF, melamine-faced boards, timber details and mirrored panels depending on the design. The wardrobe interior and exterior can use the same material or different finishes.

Doors can be plain, Shaker-style, mirrored or made for a sliding system. You can choose handles or discuss push-to-open fittings where they suit the construction. Shelves, drawer fronts and visible side panels can be coordinated as one arrangement.
