Custom Alcove Units and U-Shaped Wardrobe in Whitstable, Kent

For this project in Whitstable, Kent, we designed and built matching fitted storage for two rooms in the home. The work combined a pair of modern custom made alcove units with a U-shaped custom wardrobe.

Shaker-style doors connect the two installations visually, while each piece was planned around the dimensions and existing features of its room. All units were made from high-quality MDF and supplied ready for painting.

Modern Alcove Units with LED Shelving

The alcove units were designed for the spaces on either side of the fireplace. Each unit combines open display shelving above with closed cupboard storage below. 

Integrated LED lighting illuminates the shelving, while thick 25 mm shelves and plain filler pieces provide a neat fit within each alcove. The lower cupboards each contain a central shelf and are fitted with Shaker-style, soft-close doors.

Fitted Wardrobe Designed Around the Window

We designed the fitted wardrobe around the room’s large existing window, using a U-shaped arrangement that adds storage without restricting the natural light. Two wardrobe sections provide a combination of hanging space, shelves and drawers. 

A bridging unit connects them above the window, creating further storage while leaving the window opening clear. Together, the wardrobe and alcove units show how made-to-measure carpentry in Whitstable can use available wall space while maintaining a consistent design across the home.
