Custom L-Shaped Living Room Unit in Twickenham, Isleworth

For this living room project in Twickenham, near Isleworth, we designed and built an L-shaped MDF unit around two connecting walls. The layout combines open shelves, enclosed cupboards and an illuminated display cabinet, allowing different types of storage to sit within one continuous installation. Reeded cupboard fronts repeat across both sections and connect the main display area with the fitted alcove storage.

Illuminated Display Cabinet and Reeded Living Room Cupboards

The main section has a tall glass-fronted display cabinet positioned between open shelving compartments of different sizes. Integrated lighting illuminates the cabinet and selected open sections, making them suitable for glassware, ornaments and other display pieces. 

Below, the long reeded doors conceal the base cupboards and create an uninterrupted frontage without repeating the shapes above. The combination of illuminated compartments and varied shelving demonstrates how custom built in shelving can be arranged around the items the client wants to display.

Floating Alcove Shelves with Matching Reeded Storage

The unit continues around the corner towards the alcove on the adjoining wall. We fitted floating shelves within the alcove and added lower cupboards with the same reeded door pattern as the main installation. Repeating the doors links the two sides of the room, while the open shelves provide accessible storage without enclosing the full wall. The custom built in alcove units were sized for the available recess and coordinated with the height and depth of the connected L-shaped cabinetry. Everything was built from MDF to the layout designed by Wood Fairy.
