Custom Fitted Shaker Wardrobe in Alexandra Palace, London

For this bedroom in Alexandra Palace, London, we built a floor-to-ceiling custom fitted wardrobe combining hanging space, built-in drawers, and shelving for shoes and folded garments. Shaker-style doors enclose the storage, with a full-length vanity mirror fitted inside one door.

Custom Shaker Wardrobe with Hardwood Frames and Veneer Panels

The wardrobe spans the height and width of the bedroom wall, with the central section set slightly forward from the two outer sections. This stepped profile gives the fitted frontage definition while keeping the storage within one continuous installation.

Solid hardwood door frames and stiles surround light-toned hardwood veneer inset panels, with matching inset panels on the drawer fronts. We used birch plywood with a natural-grain veneer for the carcass and internal shelving.

Hardwood face frames and mouldings complete the surround, alongside matching hardwood baseboards and flush top soffit trim. The joinery was prepared for staining or painting.

Custom Wardrobe Interior with Pull-Down Rails and a Vanity Mirror

The two outer hanging sections each contain a hydraulic pull-down wardrobe rail, allowing the hanging space to be lowered for easier access. Built-in lower drawers add storage beneath these sections.

The central section contains multi-tier shelving for shoes and folded garments. Full-height bi-fold and swing doors provide access to the compartments, fitted with concealed soft-close hinges.

A full-length glass vanity mirror sits on the inner face of one wardrobe door, keeping it enclosed when the wardrobe is closed.
