Custom Bookcase with Hidden Storage and Room Divider Doors in Kensington and Chelsea

For this project in the Royal Borough of Kensington and Chelsea, our Carpenter Kensington team designed and built a corner bookcase that conceals a separate storage area. From the room, it appears to be an open shelving unit with closed storage above and below. 

Behind the visible bookcase, further shelves and storage space can be reached through a push-to-open hidden door. This allows the corner to provide two levels of storage without revealing the area behind from the main room.

The main unit was constructed from MDF, with timber elements included in the build. Its visible face follows the structure of custom built In bookcases, while the concealed opening provides access to the storage behind. 

Different skirting and beading profiles were added to follow the decorative details already used around the room. Behind the hidden door, custom built in shelving provides further space for items that do not need to remain on display.

Solid Wood and Glass Room Divider Doors

We also made a large solid-wood door and divider to close the room off from the entrance. Glazed sections allow a view through the central doors, while the surrounding solid panels create a clear division between the two areas. 

Beading and moulded details were added around the doors and panels to coordinate with the existing features in the room. Both elements were made specifically for the property, allowing the concealed storage, bookcase and entrance divider to work within the same interior.
