Custom Alcove Bookcase and Media Wall in Campden, London

For this property in Camden, London, we built custom alcove joinery combining an illuminated bookcase and radiator cover with a fitted media wall. The project also includes a removable console designed to slide behind the radiator screen.

Custom Bookcase with an Integrated Radiator Cover

The fireplace alcove bookcase has multiple levels of open shelving with recessed LED puck downlights. Beneath it, the custom radiator cover features a decorative cross-lattice fretwork grille and a top ventilation slot.

We made the carcass, shelves and front face frame from cabinet-grade MDF, finished in smooth off-white paint with a low sheen. A polished white and grey-veined countertop separates the shelving from the radiator cover.

Custom Media Storage and a Removable Console

The built-in media wall combines open display shelving around a central recessed nook for a TV and soundbar. Upper cubbies have inset mirror glass back panels and recessed LED spotlights.

A four-door Shaker-style base cupboard provides enclosed storage below a continuous white and grey-veined countertop. We used cabinet-grade MDF for the carcass, shelves and doors, with a smooth off-white painted finish and gold branch-style pull handles on the centre doors.

The slim custom freestanding console is designed to slide neatly behind the radiator screen. Its deep espresso-brown sides contrast with a white-veined top, allowing it to serve as a removable worktop extension.
