Custom Media Wall and Bookcase in New Malden, London

For this home in New Malden, Kingston upon Thames, London, we built a fitted media wall combining television space, illuminated bookcase shelving and enclosed storage. Decorative beading and a top cornice bring traditional detailing to the custom MDF cabinetry.

Custom TV Unit with Illuminated Bookcase Shelving

The upper section of the custom TV unit is divided into three bays. A central opening accommodates the television, while the outer bays provide open shelving for books and display pieces.

The fitted bookcase shelving incorporates vertical and horizontal LED backlighting. Aluminium channels with frosted diffusers soften the light across the display sections and integrate the lighting into the joinery.

A continuous cornice runs across the top, completing the upper cabinetry with a moulded timber detail.

Custom Base Cupboards and Drawers with Beaded Fronts

The lower unit combines cupboards at each end with storage drawers in the centre. This arrangement provides enclosed storage beneath the television and open shelving, bringing the different sections together within one fitted installation.

Raised bead mouldings outline the cupboard doors and drawer fronts. The repeated detailing coordinates the lower cabinetry with the decorative cornice above.

We made the carcasses, countertop, shelving and fronts from cabinet-grade MDF, with softwood timber used for the top cornice. The entire structure was installed unfinished, including the decorative trims. All surfaces were sanded and prepared for primer and final paint coats.
