Custom Alcove Bookcases and Cabinets in Richmond, Kew

For this property in Richmond, Kew, we built a pair of custom alcove units flanking a traditional fireplace surround. Each unit combines a tall open bookcase with a two-door base cupboard, finished with Shaker-style doors, small round knobs and classic top cornice moulding.

Custom Built-In Bookcases beside the Fireplace

The tall built-in bookcases provide several levels of open shelving above the base cupboards. The shelves offer space for books and display pieces, with a matching arrangement on either side of the fireplace.

Classic cornice moulding frames the top of each bookcase. Together with the open shelving and panelled cupboards below, this detailing gives the two units a traditional appearance around the fireplace surround.

Custom Shaker Base Cupboards with a White Painted Finish

Each base cupboard has two Shaker-style doors fitted with small polished metal round knobs. The enclosed cupboards provide storage below the open bookcases, combining space for displayed items with belongings kept behind doors.

The cabinetry is painted solid white with a smooth, low-sheen finish. The decorative cornice atop each unit is finished in a contrasting soft warm grey, matching the upper wall treatment.
