Custom Oak Balustrade and Office Storage in Tunbridge Wells, Kent

For this home in Tunbridge Wells, Kent, we fitted an oak landing balustrade and staircase handrails, alongside a custom home office and wardrobe unit. The project combines finished hardwood stair joinery with wall-to-wall MDF cabinetry providing a study workstation, shelving and enclosed storage.

Custom Oak Landing Balustrade and Staircase Handrails

The custom balustrade follows the open-gallery landing, with slim, turned oak spindles set between matching timber base rails and handrails. A subtle taper gives the spindles a simple, contemporary profile, while oak handrails continue along the staircase.

Natural oak contrasts with the charcoal-grey painted newel posts and apron stringers. This combination brings together visible timber grain and darker painted elements across the finished landing and staircase joinery.

Custom Home Office with Wardrobe and Bookcases

The full-height home office unit combines a two-door wardrobe on the left with a central study workstation and bookcases on either side. Overhead cupboards provide additional enclosed storage above the working area.

The installation extends from wall to wall and fits up to the ceiling, using the available width and height for both working space and storage. Flat slab doors and straight shelving divisions give the cabinetry a modern, minimalist appearance.

We made the carcasses, doors and shelving from furniture-grade MDF. The office and wardrobe unit was installed in unfinished MDF, ready for caulking, priming, painting and the addition of door hardware.
