Custom Window Seat, Bookcases and Utility Storage in Richmond, London

For this home in Richmond, London, we built a window seat with full-height display bookcases and a separate utility and boot-room storage wall. Both installations were made to fit the rooms, combining seating, open shelving and enclosed cupboards.

Custom Window Seat and Illuminated Alcove Bookcases

Full-height custom bookcases flank the large window, connected by a central panelled window seat. MDF frames and shelving provide space for books and display pieces, while lower Shaker-style cupboards add enclosed storage.

Warm LED lighting is inset into vertical channels behind the shelves, illuminating the display sections. Ventilation slots are incorporated at the top of the cabinetry. The open shelving and framed cupboard fronts give the installation a modern-classic appearance.

Custom Utility Room and Boot-Room Storage

The custom utility storage combines three vertical sections. A full-height cupboard on the left conceals the combi boiler, plumbing manifold and electrical fittings. On the right, the cabinetry accommodates a stacked washing machine and tumble dryer, with a pull-out sorting drawer between them.

The movable central bench provides seating and under-bench storage, backed by vertical tongue-and-groove panelling. Open cubbies sit above the bench, with high-level Shaker-style cupboards continuing across the ceiling line.

We made the utility cabinetry from MDF and timber, with round brushed-metal knobs. Both installations combine sage green painted sections with raw and primed panels ready for final decorative painting.
