Custom Wall Panelling and Under-Sink Storage in Scaynes Hill, West Sussex

For this home in Scaynes Hill, West Sussex, we fitted hallway and cloakroom panelling, a wooden coat peg rail and custom under-sink storage. The joinery combines traditional wall detailing with space for coats and cupboard storage beneath the basin.

Custom Hallway and Cloakroom Panelling with Dado Rails

The entrance hallway has half-height custom wall panelling made from grooved moisture-resistant MR-MDF sheets. The panels create a tongue-and-groove-style appearance, with a decorative dado rail along the top and painted MDF skirting at floor level.

A wall-mounted coat rack sits above the panelling. We made the backing rail from solid hardwood and fitted wooden pegs for hanging coats.

In the cloakroom, half-height MR-MDF V-groove panelling continues around three sides. A slim natural pine capping moulding finishes the top edge, while matching painted skirting completes the lower edge.

The cloakroom joinery also includes scribed timber door architrave around the entrance and a framed window surround in coordinating sage green.

Custom Under-Sink Cupboard Fitted Around the Basin

We built the custom under-sink cupboard to enclose the exposed plumbing beneath the ceramic basin and provide internal storage. Its height continues the line of the hallway's wainscoting.

We made the internal shelving and wide door from raw MR-MDF, fitting concealed Euro-style hinges to the door. A custom-cut MDF top fits around the basin pedestal and meets the adjoining wall tiles and sage-green tongue-and-groove-style panelling.
