Custom Shelving Units in Kew Gardens, London

We designed and built several custom shelving units for this house in Kew Gardens, London. The project includes MDF and oak-veneered MDF units, all with open shelves and a plain, modern appearance. Each installation was made to fit its space, including a narrow position beside a window, an existing recess and the wall above a radiator.

Open MDF and Oak-Veneered Shelving

The tall oak-veneered MDF unit sits beside the window, with shelves arranged in a single vertical column. Its open front keeps each shelf accessible, while the visible oak grain distinguishes it from the plain MDF units elsewhere in the house.

In another area, we fitted shelves within an existing recess and attached a new MDF shelving unit alongside it. The new section has two columns of shelves, extending the storage beyond the original opening. Shelving within the recess follows the available width, while the attached unit provides additional compartments beside it. Both sections remain open, without cupboard doors.

Shelving Above a Custom Radiator Cover

Another installation combines a custom radiator cover with open MDF shelving above. The cover has two patterned grille panels beneath a shelf that spans its width.

The upper shelving is divided into three vertical sections. A wider central section sits between narrower shelves on either side, providing compartments of different widths and heights within the same unit.
