Custom Wall-to-Wall Media Unit and Alcove Shelving in Putney, London

For this home in Putney, Wandsworth, London, we built a wall-to-wall living room media unit with enclosed base storage and floating alcove shelves. The installation combines a continuous low cabinet with open shelving on either side of the central television mounting area.

Custom Six-Door MDF Media Cabinet

The custom media unit extends across the wall beneath the chimney breast and adjoining alcoves. A continuous MDF top connects the lower cabinetry across the full installation.

Six flat-panel doors enclose internal shelving, dividing the base storage into compartments. Concealed metal cup hinges sit inside the cupboards, keeping the hinge fittings hidden when the doors are closed. The plain fronts create a consistent appearance across the cabinet.

Custom Floating Shelves Beside the Television Area

We fitted custom floating shelves within the alcoves on both sides of the chimney breast. Each shelving section was made to fit its recess, providing open storage while leaving the central wall available for the television.

The shelves complement the enclosed cupboards below, combining accessible open sections with storage behind doors. We made the cabinet carcasses, top, doors and shelves from MDF.

The cabinetry was installed in raw, unsealed MDF, ready for sanding, priming and painting.
