Custom Freestanding Pine Bookcase in Putney, London

For this home in Putney, London, we made a large, full-height custom freestanding bookcase with open shelving and traditional decorative detailing. Three equal bays give the bookcase a balanced front, framed by fluted vertical stiles and an ornate crown moulding.

Custom Three-Bay Bookcase with Open Shelving

The bookcase is divided into three equal vertical sections, each offering six open shelf tiers. The open bays provide space for books and display items across the height of the unit.

We used pine for the carcass, vertical dividers, base and horizontal shelves. Softwood-faced plywood panels form the backs of the three bays, with a natural pine-grain appearance behind the shelving.

Custom Fluted Detailing and Decorative Crown Moulding

Solid pine fluted face frames are applied to the vertical uprights, defining the three bays and adding traditional detail to the front of the bookcase.

A decorative timber crown moulding caps the top edge across the full width of the unit. The continuous cornice brings the three sections together, completing the classic design.
