Fitted Wardrobe and Wall Cupboard in Barnes, London

For this project in Barnes, London, we built a tall fitted wardrobe and a matching wall-mounted cupboard. The wardrobe provides two levels of hanging space, while the cupboard on the other side of the room adds separate shelved storage. Both units have Shaker-style doors.

Tall MDF Wardrobe with a Pull-Down Hanging Rail

We built the custom wardrobe from unpainted MDF, extending it close to the ceiling. Separate upper and lower compartments provide generous hanging space, with each section enclosed by its own pair of Shaker-style doors.

The upper compartment contains a pull-down hanging rail. This allows clothing stored higher in the wardrobe to be lowered within reach. A conventional fixed hanging rail in the lower compartment provides a second level of clothing storage. The two rail positions use the wardrobe’s height while providing access to both hanging sections.

Matching Wall-Mounted Cupboard with Internal Shelves

On the other side of the room, we fitted a half-height wall-mounted cupboard with matching Shaker-style doors. Inside, shelves divide the cupboard into separate storage spaces, with no hanging rail.

The cupboard provides enclosed shelving alongside the wardrobe’s hanging storage. Its wall-mounted position leaves the area beneath available for other furniture, while the matching door style connects the two installations.
